Ms. Bernice B. Tannor was born in Washington, DC and grew up with her parents, Yaw and Rebecca Gyasi and three sisters, Lila, Ellen and Zena, in Arlington, TX. Her parents are Ghana natives. Ms. Tannor earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas Wesleyan University in 1995 and in 1998, she earned a Master of Public Health, in Public and Community Health Services from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. It was there she developed an interest in adolescent health, sexuality and developing prevention programs. |
In 1994, Ms. Tannor became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. With over 10 years of experience working with adolescents in the areas of research, academics and programs, Ms. Tannor has made great strides in the helping youth reach their full potential. In 1999, Ms. Tannor worked at Bell Multicultural High School in Washington DC as the Pregnancy Prevention Coordinator.
In 2000, Ms. Tannor moved to Atlanta, GA and spent five years with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Cancer as a Research Fellow. As a result of Ms. Tannor’s passion and dedication to serve the youth through life skills education, she won the 2003-2004 Volunteerism award from the Jesse Draper Boys and Girls Club. For the next three 3 years Ms. Tannor worked as a middle and high school teacher in Fulton and Douglas County. In 2009, Ms Tannor transitioned back to public health and is a Program Officer with the CDC Foundation in Atlanta.
Ms. Tannor is honored to serve the youth of Metro Atlanta through Zena’s House. |
